Since opening in 1931, The Dorchester has been synonymous with elegance and high society, establishing itself as a destination where style, history, and London's most distinguished guests converge. When the hotel sought to refresh the visual identity for its flagship restaurant, The Grill, the brief called for an identity that honoured the hotel's rich heritage while reflecting the refined modern luxury of the dining experience itself. We looked to The Dorchester's unique place in London's landscape for inspiration. The hotel donated and planted the plane trees that line Park Lane, contributing to the very fabric of the city. A distinguished plane tree still stands in the hotel's front garden, recognized as one of the Great Trees of London. This connection to the city's history became the foundation for an identity rooted in place, craft, and enduring elegance.

The distinctive bark pattern of London's plane tree was distilled into a minimalist motif. The organic forms evoke both the tree's textured surface and the wisps of smoke rising from the grill.
